Are You An Oprah Boomer?

This morning I came across a new term, Oprah Boomer.  Oprah recently announced that she will be ending The Oprah Winfrey Show after it’s 25th year anniversary.  We still have about twenty thrilling months left until “O-Day”.  The last show is scheduled to air on September 9, 2011.   Speculators are fumbling as they try to figure our what Oprah’s plans are and who will fill her void.

Oprah will leave a gigantic void for investors and various network affiliates who were guaranteed exposer as they aligned themselves with the creator of the most dedicated audience ever.  I frequently watch Oprah’s show.  For me the frequency as a man was once every few months.  I never watched a full episode.  I did enjoy her most highlighted shows such as her big giveaways (I’m talking about the cars), The Tom Cruise episode, Bill Clinton appearance, Michael Jackson interview, Barack Obama’s Audacity appearance, and a handful of other worthwhile episodes.

Oprah was an inspiration for me.  I always wanted to be accepted by mainstream as she.  Life for blacks has never been so clearcut as many white leaders assume.  Because of Oprah’s success, many corporation overlooked the cries of discrimination and racism.  Oprah was the litmus test used by white America and corporate big wigs to ignore or to validate the separation of our historical racial depression.  This plight was not a reality for most African Americans.  Throwing wealth into one corner did not provide opportunity for all.  We were made to believe that employers were not racist or discriminate because of their alignment with Mrs. Winfrey.  This attitude was and still remains to be hog-wash.

I love and respect Oprah’s success.  I also appreciate her viewers as they found a friend and a partner in their life without bias.  Oprah’s departure from local networks will affect our entertainment as a nation.  Many younger citizens don’t own a television and spend most of their time online where they watch episodes of interest.  With so many options online, Oprah’s departure may mean the end of  local T.V.

I don’t have the power, the money or the success of Oprah Winfrey.  I know for a fact that I could not handle her daily pressure.  But Oprah has inspired me to go out and do good.  She has inspired a generation of people from around the world to “Pass it Forward”.  Her viewers have all learned to give back to their local communities and those from afar.  This is what it means to be an Oprah Boomer.  So, what are you waiting for?  Share your most memorable moments of Oprah below.
